COVID-19

You can reach them.
You can help them.
You can protect them.

Your help is urgently needed to help save vulnerable people in the world’s poorest countries from the triple burden of poverty, disability and COVID-19.

All of our lives have been touched in some way by COVID-19 and there are over one billion people worldwide who have been unduly impacted by the crisis. People living with disabilities in the world’s poorest communities urgently need your help today so we can deliver the practical support they need in this global pandemic.

Your urgent gift will supply simple but vital support to people with disabilities: Soap – which is incredibly hard to get, Emergency Aid Packages and also Personal Protective Equipment for frontline medical staff.

As you read this, the situation in many developing countries including Bangladesh looks absolutely desperate…

– reported cases are doubling every 5 days.
– it is one of the most densely populated countries in the world.
– and there are only 1,000 Intensive Care Unit beds for 165 million people.

cbm partners stand ready to help the large community of people with disabilities across Bangladesh, and across the world, but they need your urgent help to do God’s work and provide them with the emergency aid they need.

Imagine how Jesus would respond if he were to walk among the people of Bangladesh today? What would he say to them, to comfort them?

Our cbm office in Dhaka lies at the heart of the most densely populated cities in the world. Millions of families are crammed into tiny homes of less than 12m2, about one third the size of the legal minimum for a studio apartment in Auckland!

As you can imagine, social distancing is simply impossible. COVID-19 is tearing through Bangladesh’s slums. And people with disabilities are at the back of every queue for help.

How do you find a safe place if you are blind? How do you queue for food and water if you cannot walk? How do you avoid infection when you live in such close quarters with millions of others in the same situation? The answer is as simple as it is horrifying. You can’t.

The only hope for people affected by the triple burden of disability, extreme poverty, and the rapid spread of COVID-19… is you and the many other wonderful people who make up the cbm family.

You can be on the ground, turning your gift into life-saving action for the many people in need. You can reach them. You can help them. You can protect them. Please will you send a generous and urgent gift right away.

Here’s a quick look at the range of items most urgently needed in countries like Bangladesh right now:

$19 each – Handwashing Kits for people with disabilities.

$87 per family – Emergency Aid Package for a family for one month.

$96 per person – Ongoing Transportation Service for shopping and medical trips for someone with a disability during lockdown.

$190 each – Modifying water points so they are accessible to people with disability, so they can maintain good hygiene and hand health.

$289 each – Infrared Thermometers, to perform rapid temperature tests on frontline medical workers and patients.

These are some of the many ways your gift will provide practical support for people facing the triple burden of poverty, disability and COVID-19.

Time is of the essence, please give now or before 31 July. Every day that goes by, the cases mount and more people die. Please protect and support people with disabilities by taking action now.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10
