Thank you, we’re delighted that you’d like to help raise funds for vulnerable people living in the world’s poorest places. There are hundreds of ways to raise funds, the important thing is to choose a method that feels right for you.

Whether you run a marathon, host a bake sale, organise a school mufti day or ask for donations on your birthday – there are lots of creative ways you can help support people living with the double disadvantage of poverty and disability.

Challenge yourself

You can be as creative as you like when coming up with a challenge. For some it might be a 10km run, a 5km walk, or a 500-burpee challenge! The ideas are endless.

With family being close to all our hearts, receiving gifts in lieu or asking for donations at your next birthday or anniversary will truly make a difference.

Host a fundraiser

By partnering with cbm you are helping to raise awareness and vital funds for people living with the double disadvantage of poverty and disability. 

Other ways to help:

Conferences – a cbm NZ representative is available to attend conferences that enhance specialist health services, medical care and skills for work in countries where services and community care for disabilities are unavailable or unaffordable.

Volunteer

Do you have time and energy that you’d like to use to help people? Are you keen to upskill, make new friends and have fun? You can play a vital role in our life-changing ministry as a cbm volunteer.

We welcome people of all abilities, skills and time-availability to become part of our team helping us to improve our services, reduce costs and ultimately assist more people in need. 

What can you do?
We have different types of roles available in our Albany office – depending on what you are interested in and what your skills are. Can you help with:

  • Updating supporter contact details
  • Working on a database (computer literacy required)
  • Calling new supporters to thank them for giving or to invite them for meetings
  • Helping out at cbm supporter meetings
  • Small repairs and maintenance
  • Cleaning
 

Other locations
We would also like to hear from you if you live in other areas of New Zealand, to be a point of contact for us with local knowledge about suitable venues which will assist us in organising our supporter meetings in your area.

We welcome assistance with distributing brochures and information about our work in local churches, community groups or places where you are an affiliate.

Programmes Officer

Fulltime (40 Hours per week)
Fixed term (one year, with possibility of extension)

The Role

The Programmes Officer role exists to support the effective funding and delivery of cbm New Zealand’s international portfolio of programmes.

The Programmes Officer is responsible for or involved in four key activities which are:

  1. International Programmes. Assisting with programmes cycle; undertaking monitoring functions and providing implementation support to international programmes (development and humanitarian).
  2. Relationship Proactive management of relationships with Country Offices and CBM partners.
  3. Communication to Supporters. Supporting flow of information from programmes to donor engagement team, providing human interest stories and content for reports and newsletters.
  4. New Zealand Engagement on cbm New Zealand domestic advocacy programme, engaging with other  international development agencies  and the disability movement, to promote disability inclusive development.

Key Responsibilities

International Programmes

  • Assisting in the development and writing of NZ government funding
  • Monitoring and supporting implementation of cbm NZ funded programmes.
  • Maintaining close communication with cbm Country Offices, partners, key stakeholder and added value
  • Preparing financial and non-financial reports for cbm NZ funded programmes (including complex financial reporting for New Zealand Aid Programme).
  • Ensure department procedures are maintained with quality of operations.
  • Providing input into the review of and updates to international programmes department policies, processes and templates.

Relationship Management

  • Assisting International Programmes Director in relationship management of key partners (government stakeholders, added value partners, Country Offices and local partner organisation relationships).
  • Monitoring partners and supporting them towards meeting CID Code of  Conduct and compliances of due diligences.
  • Transfer of information and upskilling partner on specific areas of development.
  • Custodian of reports, information and files related to all cbm NZ funded international
  • Secretariat support to cbm’s governance structure as
  • Assistance in project information and logistical coordination for cbm NZ representatives travelling overseas as
  • Documenting expertise from cbm NZ programmes.

Communication to Supporters

  • Project formulation and reporting for non-government funded
  • Management of information, stories, databases and consent forms.
  • Supporting data collection and data process to develop annual impact reports.

New Zealand Advocacy

  • Assisting with the implementation of the cbm NZ Programme of advocacy for Disability Inclusive Development (DID), including campaigns, events, training, submissions, presentations, agendas and correspondence for key
  • Support relationships with INGOs, political leaders and institutions to advocate for inclusive Aid and Development, with emphasis on establishing partnerships with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in New
  • Engaging with other INGO’s through sectoral initiatives from the Council for International Development.

Other

  • Other related tasks as required from time to

Key competencies required

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills & Experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification such as development studies
  • Knowledge of the NZ disability sector or personal knowledge of disability
  • Understanding of the not-for-profit sector and ideally experience working in the sector
  • Experienced in Microsoft Excel and data management.
  • Understanding of accounting, budgeting & financial management.
  • Capacity to assist in acquiring and managing grants and contracts
  • Sound investigative and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Understanding the monitoring project cycle
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the preparation of submissions, presentations, correspondence, reports for a variety of audiences
  • Proven coordination and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and follow through to

  • Excellent command of the English language. Additional languages a an advantage

Board of Trustees: Accountant

cbm New Zealand seeks a qualified person to join our Board of Trustees. This would include being a member of the Board’s Audit and Finance Committee.

The Role

Our Board of Trustees seeks to appoint a new Board Trustee with accountancy expertise.

Key general responsibilities of Board Members are to:

  • Provide leadership by articulating and guarding cbm’s Vision, Mission, and Values.
  • Contribute strategic leadership by working alongside other Trustees and senior management to develop, engage with and review cbm’s strategic plan, in order to optimise cbm’s performance.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements as a charitable entity.
  • Participate in discussion and shared responsibility for decision-making, including reviewing materials submitted by management to the Board and ensuring that the financial structure of cbm New Zealand will adequately support its current needs and long-term strategies.
  • Act as an ambassador for cbm and safeguard the good name of cbm.

 

The Audit and Finance Committee has responsibility for:

  • Overseeing the annual budget process and recommending the Budget to the Board.
  • Providing expert oversight of monthly financial reporting and forecasting.
  • Presentation of Financial Reports to the Board.
  • Providing governance and financial oversight of the Board’s Financial affairs, including development and review of policies.

 

cbm NZ desires to maintain a balanced skills-based Board covering the following domains of governance/kaitiakitanga: leadership; disability inclusion; accounting; legal; organisational development; fundraising; international development; theology of justice and inclusion and not-for-profit management.

The role would suit either a qualified accountant, auditor, or experienced Board treasurer or someone wishing to gain experience in a Board treasurer position. (cbm New Zealand employs a Finance and Operations Director responsible for day-to-day financial management and reporting to the Board).

cbm’s annual operating budget is in the order of $4,000,000.

cbm’s offices are based in Auckland, but Board members are sourced from across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Time Commitment

  • A Trustee’s term is for three years, renewable.
  • The Board meets for one full day four times per year. Board meetings are usually face-to-face in Auckland with an option of virtual meetings / attendance where convenient.
  • The Audit and Finance Committee meets three times per year for up to 3 hours, with the option of virtual or face-to-face attendance.

 

Remuneration

Under the terms of our Board Charter, Board members do not receive remuneration. All reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

As an inclusive organisation, we welcome applications from people with lived experience of disability. Board of Trustees: Person with Lived Experience to Disability

cbm New Zealand is calling for applications from people with lived experience of disability to join our Board of Trustees.  As an international development organisation committed to improving quality of life of people living with disabilities in the poorest communities of the world, we raise funds for quality international programmes impacting up to one million people each year.

As a Trustee of our Board, you will contribute governance experience as well as your perspective on our priorities and practices.  Responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic leadership,
  • Ensuring legal compliance,
  • Acting as an ambassador for cbm,
  • Serving on at least one of our four Board Committees.

 

cbm’s offices are based in Auckland, but Board members contribute from across Aotearoa New Zealand. The Board meets for one full day four times per year. Provision is for disability-related support to make participation accessible. cbm will work with you to explore how best to meet those needs.
